I’ve been thinking a lot about obstacles and opportunities lately.
Obstacles have a funny way of showing us who we really are.
Not when things are smooth.
Not when the plan goes perfectly.
But when something gets in the way.
That’s where the real work happens.
And that’s where I come back to my Three Keys:
🔑Key #1 — Look Around You (Purpose)
An obstacle forces you to pause. To look at what’s right in front of you instead of what you thought should be happening. Often, the opportunity isn’t ahead of you, it’s beside you, waiting to be noticed.
🔑Key #2 — Be Careful of Comparison (Identity)
When things go sideways, it’s easy to look at others and think they have it easier, faster, better. But obstacles have a way of reminding you that your path is yours for a reason. You don’t need their timeline. You need to stay grounded in who you are.
🔑Key #3 — Celebrate Your Wins (Joy)
Obstacles stretch you. And every small step through them is worth celebrating. Progress in hard seasons builds a deeper kind of joy than easy wins ever could.
I’ve learned this in business, in leadership, and in life after selling our store.
Some of the best opportunities I’ve had didn’t come from open doors.
They came from doors that wouldn’t budge.
I’m curious, what looked like an obstacle in your life, but pointed you toward a new opportunity?
This is the kind of mindset shift I teach when I speak about purpose, identity, and joy in times of change.
